ISNR STUDENT AWARDS
ISNR’s Student Advocacy Committee (SACom) has developed and the ISNR Board has approved enhanced student awards to recognize student excellence in academic and research work. This year, students have an opportunity for awards whether attending in person or virtually while still promoting student involvement in the field of neurofeedback. This hybrid conference will pose as a venue for students to present their work in an open and supportive atmosphere. The organization encourages all students at both graduate and undergraduate levels to apply for these awards.
Student status is not discriminatory towards race, ethnicity, gender, course of study, academic institution, professional affiliations, employment, or financial status.
- Students should provide a letter from a university that indicates enrollment in a degree program.
- Ideally (but not required), should be taking at least a 50% minimum class load
- Included as “student”: undergraduates, masters, PhD/doctoral students (whether 1st or 2nd PhD), and residencies
- Documentation to confirm student status include (any of the below):
– Current year student ID
– Welcome letter to student program
– Transcripts
PLEASE NOTE: Post doc, interns, and research assistants are considered a “gray zone” and will be required to submit a request to ISNR ([email protected]) as to why they should be considered as a student.
ISNR strives to make an effort to assure students can attend the ISNR conference in person by providing a variety of opportunities. There are two types of awards:
- Academic: for those students actively participating in the conference by submitting a poster or workshop. Please review the criteria below.
- Stipends for In-Person Participants: for those students who want to volunteer their time in exchange for financial assistance to attend the ISNR conference in person.
PLEASE NOTE: Some student awards require attendance in person to receive the award. You can submit your application for different awards if the specified criteria for each award is met.
ACADEMIC AWARDS
International QEEG Certification Board Award
Goal: These awards are established by the International QEEG Certification Board to encourage the use of QEEG in scientific research and clinical practice.
About the Award: IQCB will be presenting ten awards totaling $6,000 at the 2024 ISNR Conference in Chicago. The goal is to encourage the use of QEEG in scientific research and clinical practice.
Five awards will be presented for the most outstanding paper, presentation or poster presented at the ISNR Annual Conference utilizing QEEG in some way.
- One $1,000 award- IQCB Scholarly Research Award
- Four $500 awards – Jay Gunkelman Scholarly Research Awards
- One $1,000 award – IQCB Scholarly Research Award
- Four $500 awards – Jay Gunkelman Scholarly Research Awards
Requirements:
- Must be a part-time or full-time student for the current or previous year.
- Must be a current ISNR Student Affiliate member
- Must volunteer for a minimum of three (3) hours at the ISNR Annual Conference. Discretion and time of the volunteer coordinate is required.
- Attendance at the annual conference is required to receive these awards.

FNNR Gerald Gluck Travel Award
Goal: This award is established by the FNNR organization to honor the memory of Gerald Gluck and is intended to support travel to the ISNR conference.
About the Award: One award will be granted in the amount of $300. This travel award is given for the most outstanding paper, presentation or poster presented, authored by one ISNR affiliated student at the ISNR Annual Conference utilizing QEEG, neurofeedback, and/or other neuroregulation modalities. The award will be given to submission, or publication authored or coauthored by ISNR affiliated student, that meet the following criteria:
- Must utilize QEEG and/or neurofeedback in some way in research or in the clinical practice, the student was actively involved.
- Must be a paper, presentation, or poster presented at the ISNR Annual Conference, or published the same year in Neuroregulation journal.
- Award is based on ISNR and FNNR judges evaluations and that follow the evaluation rubric.
- In-person attendance at the annual conference is required to receive the award because it is a travelship award to offset conference attendance costs.

ISNR Student Paper Awards
Goal: These awards are to encourage publishing articles in fields related to neuroregulation.
About the Award: One award will be granted of $500 USD. The award will be given for a paper, authored by an ISNR Student Affiliate member, in areas related to the field of neuroregulation and that meet the following criteria:
- Must be related to the field of neuroregulation: clinical aspects, EEG, data analysis, system development or any other field related to neuroregulation.
- Paper is based on research or project in which the student was actively involved.
- Must be author.
- Papers have been published no earlier than January 2024 in Neuroregulation.
- Awards are based on judges’ evaluations and which follow the evaluation rubric.
- Must be an ISNR Student Affiliate member within a calendar year of conference.
- In-person attendance at the annual conference is *not* required to receive the award.

Presentation Awards
Goal: These awards are to encourage students to present their research at the ISNR conference.
About the Award: A $500 USD award will be granted to an ISNR Student Affiliate member who describes their research, in areas related to the field of neuroregulation as a presentation during the ISNR conference, and that meet the following criteria:
- Must be related to the field of neuroregulation: Clinical aspects, EEG, data analysis, system development or any other field related to neuroregulation
- Presentation is based on research in which the student was actively involved
- Student must be first (or shared first authorship) author and be the primary presenter
- Awards are given for the presentation rather than per student (one award may be divided between co-presenters)
- Awards are based on judges’ evaluations and which follow the evaluation rubric
- Must be an ISNR Student Affiliate member within a calendar year of conference
Application: All presentations will automatically be qualified for the award process. Presentations will be evaluated by the judges during the presentation. No extra steps are required.
Poster Awards
Goal: These awards are to encourage students to present their research at the ISNR conference.
About the Award: An award of $300 USD will be granted to two ISNR Student Affiliate member(s) who describe their research as a poster during the ISNR conference. The posters should be authored by the ISNR Student Affiliate members in areas related to the field of neuroregulation and that meet the following criteria:
- Must be related to the field of neuroregulation: Clinical aspects, EEG, data analysis, system development or any other field related to neuroregulation
- Poster is based on research in which the student was involved
- Student must be first (or shared first authorship) author and be the primary presenter in the evaluation process
- Awards are given for the poster rather than per student (one award may be divided between co-presenters)
- Awards are based on judges’ evaluations and which follow the evaluation rubric
- Must be an ISNR Student Affiliate member within a calendar year of conference
Application: All posters will automatically be qualified for the award process. Each poster will be assigned a time for judging during the poster session. The corresponding author will be informed via email of the judging timeframe.
STUDENT STIPENDS
Travel Stipends
Goal: These stipends are to help students with their travel expenses related to attending the ISNR conference in person.
About the Award: Four stipends will be granted to ISNR Student Affiliate members who will be attending the ISNR conference in person. Two stipends, each up to $300 USD, will be given to students within the USA; and, two stipends, each up to $400 USD, will be given to international students. The stipends will be given to ISNR Student Affiliate members, for areas related to the field neuroregulation and who meet the following criteria:
- Stipend recipients will be chosen by method of lottery drawing from those students who entered their name into the drawing (by submitting the application)
- Students must register for the conference within 2 weeks of notification to receive the travel stipend
- The student’s research work submitted to ISNR must be related to the field of neuroregulation: Clinical aspects, EEG, data analysis, system development or any other field related to neuroregulation
- Must be a current ISNR Student Affiliate member within a calendar year of conference
- Must volunteer three hours at the conference

Volunteer with ISNR to Earn Financial Assistance for Conference Registration
Goal: These volunteer opportunities are to help students to cover the ISNR conference expenses for attending in person
About the Award: These opportunities help cover some conference expenses through volunteering. Please note that these volunteer opportunities are for all in-person conference attendees, who are ISNR members.

In Memoriam Award
About the Award: This award is in honor of those members and contributors to our field who have passed within the previous year. As those greats have inspired us, the award will be presented to a student upon recommendation of their professor. The recipient will receive current year, full conference registration along with workshops, a plaque and recognition during the annual conference, and membership to ISNR for the following year.
Requirements:
- Must be a part-time or full-time ISNR student who is enrolled in an accredited graduate clinical mental health program and any programs relevant to neuroregulation (e.g. master or doctorate degree in neuroscience, social work, marriage & family therapy, counseling, psychology)
- Must submit documentation of student status along with endorsement/recommendation from professional supervisor or professor.
- Must submit a succinct description of their intended clinical career path and how/why neurofeedback may be a valuable part of that work. Any current or past experiences as examples are encouraged.
Attendance at the annual conference is required to receive the award.
